— bio.aligners
Will clear aligners work for me?

bio. aligners work well for mild to moderate crowding, gap teeth, minor bite issues, and post-brace relapse. Our clinical team reviews your case at the free consultation and gives you an honest answer. We won't accept cases we can't treat well.

How do clear aligners work?

Clear aligners are removable trays custom-fitted to your teeth. You wear each tray for 7–10 days, then switch to the next set. Each tray creates a small, precise movement — the full sequence delivers your final result as planned by your specialist orthodontist.

How long does treatment take?

Mild cases: 3–5 months. Moderate cases: 6–10 months. Complex cases: 10–18 months. Your specialist orthodontist specifies the timeline during the treatment planning stage.

Who designs my treatment plan?

A UK-registered specialist orthodontist personally designs every bio. aligner case. Not software, not an algorithm, not a general dentist. A qualified specialist reviews your scans, plans every tooth movement, and approves the final plan before manufacturing begins.

How does the one scan appointment work?

After your free online consultation is approved, we connect you to your nearest bio. partner practice. The appointment is 15–20 minutes — a digital scan of your teeth. After that, everything happens remotely: treatment planning, manufacturing, delivery, monitoring.

Can I do bio.aligners without visiting a dental practice?

Yes, for mild (Essential) cases. bio. offers an at-home impression kit (+£75) that lets you complete the entire process from home — no practice visit required. Step-by-step instructions and a video walkthrough are included. For moderate (Complete) or complex (Comprehensive) cases, a 20-minute digital scan at a bio. partner practice is required for clinical accuracy.

What is the at-home impression kit and how does it work?

The at-home impression kit is a +£75 option for Essential (mild crowding) cases. Your kit arrives next day — step-by-step instructions and a video walkthrough included. Takes 15 minutes at home. Post back in the included pre-paid packaging. Your specialist orthodontist then designs your plan from the impressions. Only available for Essential cases — moderate and complex cases require a digital scan for clinical accuracy.

What makes bio. different from Invisalign?

Three things: specialist orthodontist-designed plans (Invisalign typically uses GDC-certified general dentists). Published material testing on everything we sell (Invisalign publishes none). And delivery to your door with just one in-person visit, at a materially lower price point.

What makes bio. different from other DTC aligner brands?

Other DTC brands cut corners on clinical oversight. SmileDirectClub collapsed partly because of it. bio. uses specialist orthodontists for treatment design, partner practices for the clinical scan, and publishes material testing data for every product. It is DTC in delivery. It is not DTC in clinical standard.

What if I lose or break an aligner?

Contact the bio. clinical team immediately. Replacements produced within 7–10 working days. One replacement per tray covered at no charge; additional replacements available at cost.

Do aligners hurt?

Each new tray may cause mild pressure for 24–48 hours as teeth begin to move. This is expected and brief. Most patients describe it as a tight feeling that fades quickly.

Can I eat and drink with aligners in?

Remove your aligners before eating or drinking anything except plain water. Food and hot drinks stain and warp the trays. Brush before reinserting.

Will people notice I'm wearing aligners?

Very unlikely. bio. aligners are near-invisible on teeth. Most people don't notice unless you point them out.

— bio.retainers
What are bio. retainers made of?

bio. retainers are independently tested for microplastic particle release, BPA, BPS, BPF, phthalates, and heavy metals. Confirmed free from harmful microplastics. Full results at bio.uk/standard. They are the only UK retainers for which this testing has been conducted and published.

Why are bio. retainers the only ones free from microplastics?

Every retainer in the UK market — including those from dental practices and other DTC brands — is made from standard thermoplastic with no published testing data. bio. is the first to test and the first to publish. Other brands could test theirs. They choose not to.

Why do I need retainers after aligners?

After treatment, the bone holding your teeth in their new position is still consolidating. Without retainers, teeth drift back. Retainers make your result permanent. bio. retainers are included in every aligner package and continue as an annual subscription after treatment ends.

How does the retainer impression kit work?

Order online. Your kit arrives next day — step-by-step instructions and a video walkthrough included. Takes 10 minutes at home. Post it back in the included pre-paid packaging. Custom retainers crafted and delivered within 5 working days.

— The bio. Standard
What are bio. aligners made of?

bio. aligners are made from independently tested thermoplastic with the cleanest available material profile for their category. Full testing data published at bio.uk/standard.

Are aligners free from microplastics too?

bio. aligners are made from the cleanest available material profile, independently tested and disclosed. Aligners are worn for 1–2 weeks per tray before replacement, so total exposure per tray is meaningfully lower than retainers (worn nightly for years). The cleanest available material still matters — and ours is tested. But the microplastic-free claim is our retainer's, specifically, because that is where the exposure profile makes it most significant.

How do I know the test results are real?

Every result is published by lot number and test date. The testing is conducted by an ISO 17025-accredited independent laboratory — not an internal test, not a manufacturer's claim. ISO 17025 is the international standard for laboratory competence. The methodology is published at bio.uk/standard alongside the results.

— Process & eligibility
How does the free consultation work?

Submit photos and a brief description of your concern online. Our clinical team — including a UK specialist orthodontist — reviews your case within 24 hours and confirms suitability. If you're a good candidate, you'll receive confirmation and next steps. If you're not, we'll tell you honestly and suggest an alternative pathway.

What cases can bio. treat?

bio. treats mild to moderate crowding, gap teeth, minor bite irregularities, and post-brace relapse cases. Our specialist orthodontist specifies suitability during the free consultation. We do not treat severe skeletal discrepancies, certain complex bite cases, or cases requiring surgical intervention.

What happens after treatment?

Every bio. aligner treatment ends with a free bio.retainer set on completion. You then move to the £180/year annual retainer subscription. This keeps your result permanent — retainers must be worn consistently after treatment, and an annual replacement maintains the standard of retention.

— Pricing & finance
How much does bio.aligners cost?

Essential (mild): from £1,995. Complete (moderate): from £2,795. Comprehensive (complex): from £3,495. bio.retainers: £220 for your first set, £180/year on annual subscription. Finance available at 0% APR over 24 months.

Can I spread the cost?

Yes. bio. offers 0% APR finance over 24 months through our finance partner. From £83/month for Essential cases. Check eligibility at checkout — no impact on your credit score to apply. Representative example: bio. Essential (£1,995), 24 monthly payments of £83.13, 0% APR. Subject to eligibility.

What is the refund policy?

Free consultations are non-binding. If you proceed with treatment and your case has not yet entered manufacturing, a full refund is available within 14 days of deposit payment. Once manufacturing has begun, treatment costs are non-refundable as your aligner set is custom-made to your specific dental impressions.

— For practices
How do I become a bio. partner practice?

Complete the enquiry form at bio.uk/for-practices. We'll be in touch within two working days to discuss the partnership, confirm your scanner setup, and onboard you to the bio. practice network.

Do I need a specific intraoral scanner?

We work with 3Shape Trios, iTero, and most major intraoral scanner systems. If you do not have a scanner, impression-based intake is available for retainer cases. Aligner cases require a digital scan — we can help you identify the nearest bio. partner practice if your practice is currently impression-only.

What is my clinical responsibility as a partner practice?

Your role is the scan appointment only. bio. manages all clinical governance, treatment planning, manufacturing, delivery, and patient monitoring. Your practice provides the intraoral scan and completes the bio. clinical handoff form. No further clinical responsibility for the case rests with the practice.
